Yellowjacket trail
snowshoe on Mt. Hood, Oregon , December 23, 2007
Twelve of us went out on this Mazama snowshoe on a day when the weather gods were not
providing the conditions we wanted. I had intended that we would go up the Yellowjacket
trail and then continue on the PCT to tree line. However, it rained the whole time we were
out
and the snow was deep and wet. We took nearly an hour to travel to the junction of the
PCT and it was a struggle to get through the deep, thick snow. We were all soaking wet,
so I turned us around and we mostly avoided being pelted by the snow that fell (or bombed)
from
the trees as we retraced our steps. We traveled a little over 2 miles in 1:36 hours.
