Twenty of us went out hoping to ascend the middle moraine in the canyon . The snow was crunchy and
consolidated as we went up the canyon. When we passed the intersection with the Timberland Trail we looked
for a way to cross the river to the moraine - but, there wasn't enough snow to do it safely. So, we opted to go up
the steep hillside and attain the ridge-top. We went to 5,600 ft. and had lunch there with views of Hood plus a bonus
of views of Jefferson and the Three Sisters to the south. We then followed the the ridge-line down and found some
good snow and eventually intersected the Yellowjacket Trail. Somewhere after that, we lost the trail and finally found
the Boy Scout Ridge Trail which we followed to the sno-park. Five miles, 1,300 feet gain/loss. 3:20 total time out.
