Four of us summited St. Helens on what was one of the hottest days of the year

(106F in Portland, a tie with 7/29). We were lucky that the mountain was making

some clouds, so we were not in the blasting sun the whole time. The younger women,

Kristen and Sue, were fast. I was the slow one and stashed my pack at 5,600 feet

so that I could struggle to the top. We started at 7:00 am. Kristen and Sue summited

at noon. Kristen's mom (Sue C) summited at 12:30 and I was last at 12:45. We
