Plitvicka Lakes National Park
Croatia -- September 18, 2009
Plitvicka Lakes has a series of waterfalls that are formed by natural dams of travertine. The lakes
are renowned for their distinctive colors, ranging from azure to green, grey or blue. The colors
change depending on the quantity of minerals or organisms in the water and the angle of sunlight.
I stayed at a five bedroom b&b just outside the main entrance to the park. It's a popular area for
tour groups, so it's best to time a visit when the groups have left to take their masses back to town.
There are many trail options around the lakes. The trail markers are pretty good for finding the way.
