I led this trek for the Mazamas and there was 3 inches of new snow on top the 30 inch base.
The temperature was 28 F with no wind at the start. We went out from the Barlow pass sno-
park and mostly paralled the Pacific Crest Trail for about a mile then we followed some older
tracks into the woods and up the ridge. In areas where it became steeper, I made wide traverses
so that we'd have good traction in the new snow over the compacted base. At the top of Ghost
Ridge the wind came up, so after taking pictures and enjoying the views, we dropped back
to lunch at a lower area that had wind protection. We returned to the cars via our path up.
